SYMBiOTiC RELAtiONShiPS--THE LiViNG TOGETHER OF TWO DiSSiMiLAR ORGANiSMS (DiFFERENT SPECiES) FOR BENEFiCiAL RESONS. THERE ARE 4 GENERAL TYPES:
1. MUTUALiSM- both organisms cooperate for mutual benefit. for ex: termites and protozoans, lichens=fungi and algae, humans and E. coli.
2. C0MMENSALiSM-one organism (species) is helped and the other is not helped nor harmed. for ex: birds and trees, orchids and trees-epiphytes, burrowing animals using another's previous den.
3.PARASiTiSM-one organism benefits and the other is harmed to some extent, maybe even killed. for ex:mistletoe on cedar trees, kudzu, colds/viruses
4.AMMENSALiSM-the interaction in which one species is hurt, but the other does not benefit. for ex: streamside vegetation frequently is trampled by animals coming to drink
